Clyde P.
Michael
d. Jun 20, 2026
On June 20, 2026, Clyde Patrick Michael passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer at the age of 81. He was the son of the late John Joseph Sr. and Margaret Michael; was loving friend, brother and brother-in-law to Gerard and Alice Michael and to the late John Joseph Jr. and Margaret Michael; beloved husband of Elizabeth for 58 years; loving father of Cathleen Benkert (Brian), Kimberly Glock (Greg), and Laura Michael; and wonderful grandfather to his two cherished granddaughters Alexandra and Amber.
Clyde was born and raised in Highlandtown in Baltimore City and graduated from Sacred Heart of Jesus School and was a part of the Class of 1963 from Calvert Hall College. After high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force in January 1964 and served honorably in Vietnam before he was honorably discharged in 1967. After a few years working for Bethlehem Steel, he joined the Maryland Air National Guard in 1974 and went on to serve 30 years before retiring in 2004 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. At the age of 59 he achieved a lifelong dream of college education by graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Baltimore. Through his military career, he travelled the world and visited places most of us could only dream of visiting. He was never happier than talking about his travels and the places he had seen. Once retired from the Maryland Air National Guard he worked a few years for First Mariner Bank before retiring fully in 2011.
In 2015 Clyde became a full-time care giver to his wife Elizabeth along with their wonderful aide Nadine, after a sudden health crisis that left her disabled. He took on this responsibility without a second thought as it was only natural for him to step up and provide care. He continued this until 2022 when her care became more than he can manage at home.
To know Clyde was to be embraced by warmth, kindness and the biggest heart of anyone you would have the chance to meet in this life. He touched the lives of many with his ready smile and positive attitude that especially shone through during his cancer treatment. Once you were his friend, you had a champion in your corner that would do anything he could to help in a time of need. For the men and women of the Maryland Air National Guard he was an outstanding resource and point of contact for all matters regarding Personnel Management. He always saw it as a privilege to be able to help others at their time of need.
He will be sorely missed by all those who loved and knew him. As a family we hope that he is finally at peace and reunited with departed loved ones in heaven.
