On Sunday November 24th, 2024, Carl Anthony Runk passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, he was 88 years old. Carl was born on March 25th, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland and was blessed to have two loving mothers, Josephine McGill and Anna Runk, and his loving father George E. Runk.

Carl graduated from Patterson Park High School, and went on to play football at the University of Arizona before making a groundbreaking legacy with Towson University. Carl was Towson's first head football coach, but his most notable legacy lies with his 31 year tenure as head coach of the Towson's men lacrosse team. He guided the program to remarkable achievements including a National Championship in 1974, and several Division 1 appearances throughout the 1990s.

His contributions have earned many accolades and hall of fame inductions, but his greatest influence extended beyond the field with his family and loved ones. He was a devoted husband, father, grand father, brother, uncle, friend and coach. We will remember his larger than life personality, infamous story telling, and infectious love.

Carl was preceded in death by Joan Runk, his beloved wife of 61 years, and is survived by their four children, Carl and his wife Marilyn, Keith and his wife Merribeth, Curt and his wife Jean, and Brenda Parker and her husband Tom.

He is preceded in death by his sisters Carol, Cassie, Francis, and Robin, and his brothers Joseph, Jimmy, and Raymond.

He is also survived by his sisters Joan, Donna, and his brothers Alfred, Davis, and Ted.

He leaves his 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and many other family and friends.

To respect his dearest wishes, all funeral and interment services will be reserved only for family. A celebration of life will take place in January 2025. More information to be shared at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to the Carl Runk Lacrosse Scholarship at Towson University, as they would be deeply appreciated.
