On Sunday, December 1st, Bruce Rollen Mortimer, age 75, of Lutherville, Maryland passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Born in Baltimore on April 27th, 1949, to William R. Mortimer and Bettye J. Mortimer, he was a devoted husband to Karen Kline Mortimer and loving father of Kristen Mortimer Miller and Lindsay Rollen Mortimer.
Bruce graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Bucknell University in 1971 and spent his career in the family business, Anderson Automotive. He and his father, Bill, made Anderson a great success as one of the highest sales volume Oldsmobile dealerships in the country. Bruce grew the company from a single point Oldsmobile dealership to a multi-franchise automotive group with multiple locations. His genuine interest in people earned him the respect, trust, and adoration of his employees, many working with him for decades. He was also respected by his peers in the automotive industry and was elected the chair of the national dealer council for Volkswagen and was selected as one of eight dealers to serve on the Oldsmobile board of governance.
Bruce devoted his life to the service of others, especially those struggling with addiction. Since 2006, he served on the board of the Helping Up Mission in Baltimore. There he spent 18 years acting as a mentor, guiding and encouraging many who have continued as graduate staff members, managers, and directors. As a board member he served on almost every committee and was instrumental in establishing the Alumni Support Committee. As Board President from 2021-2024, the Mission completed the Inspiring Hope Campaign to establish and open the Center for Women & Children.
Bruce is also survived by four grandchildren, Lucy Mortimer Miller, Josie Kline Miller, Jackson Rollen Schuchard, and Owen William Miller, and his sons-in-law, Jeffrey Michael Miller and Andrew Packer Senich.
The family will receive friends at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Rd, Towson, MD 21204 on Sunday, December 8th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at The Hunt Valley Church, 13015 Beaver Dam Rd, Hunt Valley, MD 21030 on Monday, December 9th at 10am. Burial will follow immediately after at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Rd, Timonium, MD 21093.
