Longtime Towson resident Bowman Hood III passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11 after a brief stay in hospice care. Bow grew up in Homeland, the son of Dr. Bowman J. and Dorothy Hood. He had an identical twin brother Bruce and a sister Barbara. He was educated at Baltimore City College and soon after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Devens, Mass.
When Bow was 13, he met the love of his life, Mary Lee "Cookie" Hood, who lived on the same block in Homeland. They dated throughout their high school years and beyond and married on September 5, 1964. It was the beginning of a lifetime of love and happiness.
Early in their marriage, Bow began a career as a salesman in industrial packaging, which became a true passion. His infectious personality made him a successful salesman and he worked for a number of companies throughout his long career and many of his customers became lifelong friends.
In 1968, they welcomed their son, Bowman IV, who became the light of their life. They moved from Rodgers Forge to their home in Ruxton, where they remained more than 50 years and together, took daily walks around their neighborhood.
Bow lived life to the fullest and engaged in a number of hobbies, including running, tennis and swimming at the Towson YMCA. He also had a love of motorcycles and cars and owned many iconic vehicles throughout his lifetime. He was also a world traveler, and visited much of the United States, Europe and the Caribbean, with Italy being his favorite country to visit.
He and Cookie would regularly visit Rehoboth Beach, Del. where family owned a beach home. He also loved to frequent local restaurants including The Peppermill, where they had a standing 8 p.m. reservation each Friday. And he was a frequent customer of Graul's Ruxton, where he knew the names of almost all the staff.
Bow was also an animal lover and had several dogs – including Ginger and Muffin – during his life. He was a devoted grandfather to his son and daughter-in-law's cats Ichabod and George and would often pet sit when they went on vacation.
In 2020, Bow lost his lifetime love, Cookie, after a battle with cancer. He mourned her death deeply and his wish was to be with her again.
He touched many lives wherever he went and will be deeply missed by many family, and friends.
He is survived by his son Bowman and his daughter-in-law, Karen and in-laws Michael and Margaret Glenn. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces, as well as friends and neighbors.
The Funeral Service will be held at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road Towson, MD 21204 on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 11AM. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9AM until 11AM. Interment, Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery in White Hall, MD.
