Obituary

On August 31, 2026, Betty Contino unexpectedly passed at the age of 81 and ascended into God's embrace. In her final hours, she was enveloped in love by her devoted husband, dear sister, two daughters and nephew.  She will be reunited with her parents, Mary Elizabeth Beard, Jesse Raymond Glackin, and her brothers Mark and Steve Glackin. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Fran Contino; her daughters Jeanne and Robin; her 5 grandchildren Alex, Riley, Lulu, Jack and Luki; her sisters Nancy Foltz, Martha Bagley and Mary Lyons; and all of her nieces, nephews and grands on both sides of the family.

Betty was born in Harrisburg, PA and became a lifelong Baltimore resident. She attended parochial grade school at St. Joseph's Fullerton, public high school and after 20 years of hard work graduated from Notre Dame of Maryland University with her BA in Business. Through diligence and savvy Betty got her start at Fairlanes rising to Vice President of the nationwide enterprise. After more than 20 years in the corporate world, she retired to focus on her mission to serve her community at the grassroots.   Betty was struck by the injustice of homelessness and found ways to bring dignity to those unseen and unhoused in Baltimore City.  She worked tirelessly to ensure people living on the streets were dry and warm, distributing ponchos, socks and boots to every shelter in town. She assisted Catholic Charities in establishing Christopher Place Academy. Betty inspired and accompanied hundreds of men across multiple graduating classes.

Betty was a natural entrepreneur, an inspiring visionary, and in one of her daily conversations with God, she had an epiphany to focus on youth to break the cycles of homelessness, addiction and incarceration. At the urging of Mary Catherine Bunting and with the assistance of Jean Halle WEA (Women's Education Alliance) was born.  For nearly 15 years she threw her heart and soul into ensuring school-aged children in Baltimore City had access to scholarships, innovative programs, technology, state-of-the-art facilities and top-notch educators.  Betty had a gift for making every person she encountered feel seen.  She was truly unique with her boundless enthusiasm and her faithfulness to God's mission.  Betty changed countless lives, and her immeasurable impact will live forever.
