Antonios "Tony"
Mavrellos
d. Jun 9, 2026
On June 9, 2026, Antonios "Tony" Mavrellos, beloved husband of Kathryn "Katie" Mavrellos (nee Schermerhorn); loving father of Lena Mavrellos and Tommy Mavrellos; beloved son of Stamatios "Tomm" Mavrellos and the late Despina Mavrellos; devoted brother of Anna Mavrellos Horrigan and her husband Chris; dear uncle of Markello Horrigan.
Antonios "Tony" Mavrellos, loving husband, proud dad, devoted son, brother, cousin, friend, and colleague.
Born on January 2, 1976, Tony was the eldest child of Stamatios (Tomm) and the late Despina Mavrellos, and brother to Anna. Growing up in Baltimore, he was surrounded by a large Greek-American family, with many cousins, Theias, and Theios.
Some of Tony's happiest memories were made in Lagada, the family village on the island of Chios, Greece. Growing up, he spent summers there and developed a lifelong love for the island. Over the years, he loved sharing that special place with his wife Katie, and children Lena (16), and Tommy (10).
Tony's education started at Boys Latin and St. Pius X in Baltimore. He graduated from Loyola Blakefield in 1994 and went on to attend the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park.
He was a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and devoted Terp alum. To say Tony loved Maryland sports would be an understatement. If the Terps were playing, Tony was watching, talking about it, and texting about it. At Maryland, Tony formed friendships that would last a lifetime. His fraternity brothers remained his closest friends for more than thirty years.
Tony spent more than twenty-eight years in the wealth management industry, beginning at Alex Brown, then Brown Advisory. He was most recently a Vice President at William Blair where he will be missed by longtime colleagues who were like family.
It was while they were both working at Alex Brown that Tony met Katie. Together they had a marriage filled with laughter and support for one another. They genuinely enjoyed being together, whether they were traveling, spending time with friends, cheering from the sidelines, or being with their kids, they were true partners.
Tony's favorite place was on the sidelines watching Lena and Tommy. Whether it was lacrosse, soccer, basketball, or any other activity his kids were involved in, Tony was there. He was the Team Dad for Lena's lacrosse team where his enthusiasm and encouragement will be missed by everyone.
One of Tony's greatest gifts was his ability to make friends wherever he went. Friends from childhood, high school, college, work, sports, and family all became part of one extended circle. Tony had an easy laugh and endless enthusiasm. He leaves behind memories, stories, laughs, and friendships that will continue to bring comfort to everyone lucky enough to have known him.
Tony is survived by his wife, Katie; his children, Lena and Tommy; his father, Tomm; his sister, Anna, her husband Chris, and their son, Markello; and a large extended family and community of friends who will miss him dearly.
