Amalia Pappas Lucas passed away peacefully September 30, 2026 with family by her side. She was born in Baltimore April 25, 1948, the daughter of Fi and George Pappas. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Peter Lucas, two sons Ben and Andrew Lucas and six grandchildren, Lucy, Wyatt, Poppy, Lyla, Rose and Weston, all who adored their Yaya, as well as her brother Harry and sister Stephanie. After graduating from Towson High School, she attended The University of Maryland where she met her future husband on Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale. After college she earned a Master's Degree in Education from Loyola University and worked in Washington DC where she was a staff member of Vice President Spiro Agnew often flying on Air Force Two. She married Peter Lucas in 1972 and they moved to California as Peter was now a Marine Corps Officer. Soon after they returned to Baltimore where Amalia taught 4th grade and reading in Baltimore City. After her oldest son was born she decided to focus on raising her family. Amalia was an extensive traveler and always up for an adventure. She traveled through Europe, South America, Africa, the Pacific, Southeast Asia and road-tripped across the United States countless times. She was active in Greek Churches in the Baltimore area and was always grateful for the everlasting relationships she built in that community. She was blessed with the opportunity to have lived in Maryland, California, South Carolina, Florida and North Carolina. She loved the beach but none more than Emerald Isle, North Carolina where she visited every summer for 40 years. Amalia was the life of the party - beautiful, elegant and fun - but also intelligent, engaging, compassionate and a loyal friend. She will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her many lifelong friendships, and the warmth and joy she brought to those around her.
