Dr. Albert Louis Ousborne, Jr., 87, of Middle River, MD, died peacefully at home on September 10, 2026. He was born on June 24, 1939 in Baltimore, and grew up in the McElderry Park neighborhood of the city. The only child of Albert Louis Ousborne, Sr., and Grace (Connor) Ousborne, Al graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1957, then went on to earn his college degree at the University of Maryland in 1960 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 1964. That year, he also married Margaret Anne “Peggy” Boland, with who he had two children, Patrick and Jeffrey.
After dental school, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, practicing dentistry at the Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, as well as aboard Aircraft Carriers during deployments.
Following Al’s honorable discharge in 1966, he and Peggy returned to the Baltimore area, ultimately settling in Hampton near where he established his Towson dental office. He practiced there for over 40 years.
Al genuinely loved dentistry, and never stopped learning and improving as a professional. He served in many posts and organizations, including time as president of the Baltimore County Dental Association and as an officer at the state and local level. He also got great joy from the American Academy of Dental Practice Association, where he served as president in 2000. He traveled internationally in his professional role, as well, including a trip to post-Soviet Poland in the 1990s.
Al’s other passion was boating on the Chesapeake Bay. From the small wooden craft of his childhood to his beloved 43’ Viking, he and later his family explored the towns, rivers, and creeks of the Chesapeake on weekends and summer vacations with friends.
Al was also a classically trained pianist. As a child, he played on local television and considered a career in music before pursuing dentistry. He continued to play classical and popular music at home until arthritis made it too difficult.
In addition to his children, he leaves his wife of 62 years, daughters-in-law Esther (Ocampo) and Kate (O’Brien), and grandchildren Luke, Sam, and Max.
Visitation will be held at Ruck Funeral Home in Towson on October 24, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, with a service and reception to follow. Military honors will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
